On Debian based systems you can install essential tools and libraries by running: sudo apt-get install build-essential In addition to that, you need various dependencies and complicated set up regarding Win32/Win64 yum install gcc should cure it (but to build gcc you'll need some other packages too, like gmp-devel, mpfr-devel etc.). gcc is reporting its version as 4.0.1. The make and make install commands also completed successfully.
